Top 25 Songs On My iPod Travel Playlist

3 Feb

I am a HUGE fan of my iPod and iPhone.  I have very eclectic taste in music — everything from Barry Manilow to Mozart to Method Man — and have more than 4,000 songs.

I’m also a big fan of creating playlists, and I currently have 51 one of them.  One of my favorite playlists is Leavin’ On A Jet Plane. Oddly enough, that particular song is not included on the list.  But below are the songs that did make the cut.

  1. “Ramblin Man,” the Allman Brothers. “When it’s time to leave here, I hope you understand, that I was born a ramblin man.” That says it all, doesn’t it?
  2. “Somewhere,” Barbra Streisand. Why? Because we all want to go somewhere, don’t we?
  3. “Clear Horizon,” Basia. “All you need is a clear horizon” — amen to that!
  4. “Fly,” Seal. “In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn’t that crazy?” Great question, Seal!
  5. “Acquarela Do Brazil,” Dionne Warwick. Because Brazil is my favorite country to visit.
  6. “Only A Dream in Rio (live),” James Taylor and Regina Wilson. See number four.
  7. “Home At Last,” Steely Dan. Because even though we love the journey, it’s always great to make the trip home.
  8. “Celebrate Me Home,” Kenny Loggins. See number 6.
  9. “God Only Knows,” the Beach Boys. This was the song played in the opening sequence at London Heathrow Airport’s arrivals hall in one of my favorite movies, “Love Actually.” (see post here)
  10. “I Just Wanna Fly,” Sugar Ray.  Because really, who doesn’t?
  11. “Moon Over Bourbon Street,” Chris Botti and Sting. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, and this song captures its charm.
  12. “Rocket Man,” Elton John. “She packed my bags last night pre-flight. Zero hour nine a.m. And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then.”
  13. “Crazy in Japan,” Beyonce. I want to visit Japan in my lifetime and this is a mashup of Beyonce’s hit “Crazy in Love.”
  14. “Higher Ground,” Stevie Wonder. As travelers, isn’t that what we all crave?
  15. “Get There,” Oleta Adams.Because when going on a trip, this is exactly what we want to do!!
  16. “Wishing You Were Here,” Chicago. Because on every trip I take, there’s always someone I wish were there with me.
  17. “California Dreamin’,” Queen Latifa. I’m from California, and I’m always dreaming about getting there.
  18. “Do You Know The Way To San Jose?” Dionne Warwick. See number 17.
  19. “Wide Open Spaces,” Dixie Chicks. What a *great* travel song!!
  20. “Fly Me To The Moon,” Frank Sinatra. The chairman had me at fly!
  21. “Tennessee,” Arrested Development. “Take me to another place. Take me to another land.”
  22. “One Day I’ll Fly Away,” Joe Sample/Lalah Hathaway AND Nicole Kidman (yes, that one).   Don’t we all just want to fly away, really?
  23. “Send Me On My Way,” Rusted Root. Yes kids, I’m ready to GO!!
  24. “So Far Away,” Carole King. “So far Away. Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore?”
  25. “State of Independence,” Donna Summer. This is how I feel about travel!

So what are some of the songs on your travel playlist?  I’m always looking for new music to add to my iPod!
